Introducing Mrs. Sara Urbanek-Carney
After graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, I started my career in the Chicago Public School system teaching third grade. My passion for living an active and outdoor-centered lifestyle eventually led me to Colorado where I taught in a second grade gifted and talented center program in the Jefferson County School District. During this position, I also earned my master’s degree in Linguistically Diverse Education from the University of Colorado-Denver. After completing this degree, I moved into a regular education second grade classroom, serving a high number of English language learners (ELLs). I have also worked as a K-2 literacy interventionist and K-5 ESL teacher in the Poudre School District in Fort Collins, Colorado. I came to Utah with my husband, Clint, who is working towards a doctoral degree in the College of Natural Resources here at USU. Our son, Wynston was born this past March and we are enjoying the excitement of parenthood! We also have an adorable Labradoodle named Melvin. I am extremely excited to be part of the phenomenal team at Edith Bowen Laboratory School.
